TitleRedundancy or Strangulation! The case for the Lancashire Cotton Industry against the Redundancy Scheme. Title page.

CreatorAscoli, W S
*
DescriptionThis was a response to the Report and Draft Scheme of Lord Colwyn's Committee for dealing with surplus capacity in the cotton industry. Ascoli's argument was that the Redundancy Scheme proposed by the Colwyn Committee was "an inversion of Lancashire's needs" and that Lancashire producers "require the markets which are our legitimate province." The author rejected "the creed which seeks wantonly to destroy the means of supplying the trade." Ascoli concludes that Lancashire's problems were due to being forced out of the Indian market resulting in a loss of four-fifths of exports.
