Industrial Lancashire: Some manufacturing towns and their surroundings
In 1897, John Mortimer, then Chief Buyer for Henry Bannerman & Sons Ltd., undertook a 'tour' of the Lancashire Cotton District, and described all of the principal cotton towns, outlining their histories and the effect the cotton industry had on their development. The result was "Industrial Lancashire", a minor classic of its kind, which also has over 60 illustrations of the cotton towns and surrounding landscapes as they were at the end of the 19th Century.
