Spinning the Web is one of four projects which aim to bring to life the story of textiles in central and northern England. Blackburn's Cotton Town tells the fascinating story of the development of an individual town in detail. Calderdale's From Weaver to Web describes the origins of the West Pennine woollen industry, growth of the woollen trade, external forces expanding a traditional trade and the decline of the cloth trade in Halifax. Leicester's Knitting Together has created a 'virtual museum' celebrating the social cultural, economic and technological heritage of the textile industry in the East Midlands, from the close of the 1500s to the present as well as into the future.
